Porsche 928 Risky Business

The 1979 Porsche 928 hero car from Risky Business has sold for a remarkable $1,980,000 at a Texas auction.

It is understood that this 928 is one of three used during the filming of 1983's Risky Business film and was the car that received the most screen time and seat time from the cast. It was also one of two cars used during the film's iconic chase scene with Tom Cruise behind the wheel.

This 928 originally left the factory painted white but was refinished in gold for the movie. It has since been stored in a climate-controlled environment and was displayed at Porsche Cars North America for a year and was part of the Petersen Automotive Museum's influential Porsche Effect Exhibit. It also features signatures from several members of the film's cast, including Bronson Pinchot, Joe Pantoliano, Curtis Armstrong, and Francine Locke.

The car was also the subject of a documentary dubbed 'The Quest for the RB928 (Risky Business 928)" that chronicled the journey of filmmaker Lewis Johnsen in tracking down the car.

It is unclear who purchased the car from the Barrett-Jackson auction but they clearly weren't off-put by the idea of spending roughly 100 times more than you'd need to buy an ordinary Porsche 928 on the used market.

Powering the car is a 4.5-liter naturally-aspirated V8 with 219 hp and 254 lb-ft (344 Nm) of torque. This grunt is sent through a five-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels, allowing the 928 to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6.8 seconds and a 143 mph (230 km/h) top speed.
